For more than 30 years, OnTurtle has been providing a comprehensive range of mobility services for the transport sector, helping its customers improve the efficiency of freight transportation across numerous routes throughout Europe. Its services include fuel supply, parking, tolls, VAT and excise duty recovery, among others, across more than 1,800 stations in 10 different countries.

Project Scope

OnTurtle sought to take a step forward by digitalising the price management process for the multiple service stations it manages, tailoring it to each customer type. With a forward-looking approach, business growth required greater scalability than the existing system could provide. The company needed a tool capable of supporting the business as far as its future needs might demand.

As the scope of the process expanded and consolidated operational information from all service stations became available, a key need emerged that had not previously been visible: ensuring data reliability and quality. An analysis of the current market landscape highlighted the importance of having more advanced control mechanisms in place. As a result, the project evolved naturally to incorporate a continuous data quality monitoring model, ensuring information consistency and strengthening decision-making based on reliable data.

Project Description

The objective of the “Digitalisation of Price Calculation” project was to develop an application using Power BI, the business analytics tool, together with K4 Analytics’ EPM solution, in order to generate hypothetical operational scenarios on a weekly basis and modify key business indicators.

K4 Analytics is an EPM solution designed to maximise the value of a market-leading business analytics tool such as Power BI. It integrates seamlessly with BI reports and enables OnTurtle to continue using its existing environment and reports.

Using different simulation scenarios, the application generates calculations based on the targets set for the business indicators and captures the changes made to the required variables so they can subsequently be transferred to the production environments. In addition, a series of reports was developed to support the entire process. These included context reports, containing data from recent weeks, which provide a starting point when creating scenarios and help focus attention on the highest-impact elements; as well as monitoring reports, which compare the simulations against actual data once it becomes available.

The application enables users to create different versions for a given week and to modify, validate or reject these versions according to their criteria. The solution process is outlined below:

Alongside the development work, the team audited the various maintenance activities and operations in order to detect inconsistencies in the information. These audits were delivered together with each iteration of the solution for analysis by OnTurtle’s IT team.

In this context, selecting the right technology solution is not the only essential factor; it is equally important to have a technology partner that brings experience, expertise and a high level of commitment. Holistic met the key criteria considered in this decision: a strong track record in the financial field, extensive technology expertise, professionalism, trust and commitment.

Furthermore, during the implementation stage, OnTurtle and Holistic worked together in an integrated manner, operating as a single team, and the alignment between both organisations proved decisive. On the one hand, Holistic’s experience in projects of this nature played a fundamental role in change management, as well as in providing support, defining processes and offering guidance at key moments. On the other hand, the motivation and commitment of OnTurtle’s Key Users were essential in making this transformation a reality.

Results

OnTurtle needed to digitalise its price-setting process and requested Holistic’s support in turning this need into a tangible solution. Thanks to this vision and Holistic’s proposed solution, it was possible to translate users’ needs and ideas into a solution that fulfils OnTurtle’s objectives.
